Action News! December 2024

As we close out 2024, we want to take a moment to reflect on all we’ve accomplished together and share our excitement for what’s ahead. This year has been filled with challenges and triumphs, and through it all, your unwavering support has helped us empower voters and defend democracy across Texas.

This year, we’ve celebrated incredible victories. From registering thousands of voters to educating communities about critical issues, we’ve worked tirelessly to ensure that every Texan had the tools and access they needed to participate in our democracy. Your dedication and contributions have fueled this progress, and we couldn’t be more grateful.

Looking ahead to 2025, we’re gearing up for another year of action. There’s still so much work to be done to make voting accessible for all, expanding our outreach to diverse communities, and advocating for strong voter protections. Together, we’ll continue to tackle these challenges head-on, standing up for fair elections and holding our elected officials accountable to prioritize voters’ rights.

Your commitment makes our democracy stronger and ensures that every voice is heard. I want to thank you for being part of this movement. You are the heart of everything we do.

As we approach the end of the year, I invite you to continue supporting the League of Women Voters of Texas. A year-end donation will help us build on the momentum we’ve created and set the stage for a powerful 2025. Visit LWVTexas.org to contribute or join us in our efforts—we’d love to have you with us.

Wishing you a wonderful holiday season and a democracy-filled New Year!

With gratitude,

P.S. The League of Women Voters of Texas is working tirelessly to advocate for all Texans this holiday season and beyond. Donate today to support our mission of empowering voters and defending democracy!

LWVTX Annual Impact Report

2024has been a transformative year for LWV Texas, marked by growth, resilience, and impactful progress. We’ve championed voter rights, empowered communities, and advanced a more inclusive democracy. From expanding our nonpartisan

Voters Guide and VOTE411 platform to supporting local Leagues in voter outreach, we’ve made strides toward a stronger, more inclusive democracy.

Key highlights:

  • We distributed over 175,000 printed Voters Guides and almost 34,000 bookmarks to over 275 libraries and community locations. Plus, the Voters Guide was available again on VOTE411.org in four languages—English, Spanish, Vietnamese, and Simplified Chinese—and was accessed over 940,000 times!
  • Leveraging a special grant and collaborating with local Leagues in the Houston area, more than 800,000Voters Guides were mailed directly to potential voters’ homes or distributed through community centers.
  • In a hard-fought victory, the court ruled in favor of the League and other plaintiffs, striking down a provision of SB1 that restricted compensated canvassers from engaging in voter advocacy near mail-in ballots. (The defendants have filed a notice of appeal.)
  • Awarded 41 grants totaling $50,000 to support local Leagues with their voter registration and get-out-the-vote efforts.
  • Our LWV Texas website appeared in organic Google search results over 2 million times, and we had over half a million views across our social media channels!

Texas General Election Voter Stories Survey

LWV Texas is collecting stories from voters about their experiences during the November 5th General Election. We invite you to share your story and, if you’re comfortable, complete a separate survey to include any experiences shared by your friends or family.

Your input will help the League understand how new voting procedures affected Texans and identify any challenges voters faced. By completing this survey, you agree that we may use the general information you provide as part of a collection of stories without including any personally identifying details. This information will support our voter education efforts and guide our advocacy for voting improvements at the Texas Capitol.

Providing your name and contact information is optional. If you do share your contact details, we may contact you to learn more about your experience.

Urge the President to Immediately Publish the Equal Rights Amendment!

In the United States, women are still not guaranteed equal rights. We have seen the devastating consequences of this reality. Yet, the Equal Rights Amendment (ERA), which will update the US Constitution to protect the equality of rights under the law regardless of sex, can be added to the Constitution with one action. With just months left in office, we are urging President Biden to act to ensure that the ERA is published.

Urge President Biden to instruct the US Archivist to certify and publish the ERA in the Constitution! Equality cannot wait!

Be a Hero for Democracy!

As we stand on the cusp of a new era, you have an essential role to playas a defender of democracy. Voting victories don’t come quickly or easily. Your tax-deductible gift to the League helps ensure voters are empowered, people are educated, and the rights countless advocates and supporters have fought to secure are upheld. We haven’t stopped for 105 years, and we won’t stop now!
