Review Process for Canceling Voter Registration of Potential Non-citizens

Scott B. Scott, Texas Secretary of State,

The League of Women Voters of Texas is seriously concerned with the number of Texans who are receiving notices of potential non-US citizenship for the purpose of canceling their registration to vote. A new process for certifying voter registrations became effective on September 1, 2021. As outlined by the Secretary of State,
see advisory August 2021, this new process has several criteria and steps that must be followed before voters are disenfranchised.  Yet, this new process has sent thousands of naturalized U.S. citizens a Notice of Examination letter indicating that they have been flagged as potential non-citizens by the Department of Public Safety through  their Driver's License or Personal Identification.

The League of Women Voters of Texas urges the Secretary of State to review the process by which people are identified as potential non-US citizens before more letters are sent out to prevent mass disenfranchisement.
