The League’s Statement about the
Busing of People Seeking Asylum

Austin, TX
The League of Women Voters of Texas condemns Governor Abbott’s busing documented immigrant asylum seekers to Washington DC, New York, Chicago, and other cities without warning or coordination with local and state officials, or aid organizations in those cities. The governor has been busing migrants to other cities since April, often without adequate food and clothing for the trip or without migrants knowing where they will be dropped off.

LWV Texas calls on the governor to stop this dangerous and inhumane political ploy. We call upon him and his administration to instead work with local, state, and federal officials, and immigration organizations to humanly aid these distraught people and to develop a fair and humane immigration policy.
