What happens at the LWV of Texas Convention?  Mar 28, 2024 07:00 PM 

This meeting will go over what to expect at an LWVTX Convention. In particular, we will review the procedures during the Plenary for making motions, amendments, and voting.

Proposed Program Caucus Apr 2, 2024 07:00 PM 

Elisabeth McNamara will review the proposed Program recommendations. This meeting is the opportunity for Convention delegates to ask their questions about the Program and recommendations to be voted on at the Convention. Details of the program recommendations submitted will be shared before the meeting.

Silent Auction 


We are bringing back the Silent Auction to our Convention! We haven't done one since 2018, but due to popular demand, it's back! LWVTX is asking every local Leagues to submit an item or package for the silent auction at the convention. Would you and your local League be willing to assemble a package that represents your community? Together, we'll be able to raise money at our convention for the important work all of us do. Thanks so much for your consideration and help! The deadline to submit the following form is April 4th.

Delegates


Delegate Counts

For the convention, the formula for assigning delegates = the League President counts as 1 delegate + 1 delegate for the first 15 members + 1 delegate for each 10 members after that. The delegate count composition/formula can be found in Article VII, Section 2 in the LWVTX Bylaws. The preliminary delegate count can be found here. Final delegate counts will come from LWVUS data based on the Jan 31st PMP census count. We will be asking for the names of the delegates from each League as we get closer to the convention date. If you have any questions, please contact the Governance Committee at governance@lwvtexas.org.

Delegate Responsibilities:

  • Nominate and vote on the Texas League's leadership, the Board of Directors
  • Debate and vote on the Budget
  • Debate and vote on Texas League proposed Program.

Observers may attend all parts of the Convention but they do not vote any items being decided.

Resolutions


April 13th is the deadline to submit resolutions!


A resolution may be proposed by a League or a delegate by completing and submitting the required Resolution Submission Form.

The following criteria will be used to judge the appropriateness of the proposed resolution:
  1. Is consistent with League Bylaws, Principles and Positions.
  2. Does not circumvent the program process.
  3. Deals with a single, topical, time-sensitive issue.
  4. Asks for a single, short-term action by this Convention which is likely to have an impact.
  5. Is pertinent to Texas.
  6. Can be implemented using existing League resources.
