Give the Gift of Democracy- Planned Gifts are an Investment

Continuous investment in democracy yields significant dividends now and for generations to come. When you make a contribution to the League of Women Voters of Texas, you are telling us that you believe in what we do and you know you are investing in programs that will strengthen the pillars of democracy.

Minnie Fisher Cunningham Society

The Minnie Fisher Cunningham Legacy Society was created in 2004 by The League of Women Voters of Texas to strengthen the financial future of the League by encouraging planned gifts and multi-year pledges so the League can continue and thrive, focusing on its mission: empowering

voters; defending democracy.

Minnie Fisher Cunningham, known as “Minnie Fish,” was the leader of the Texas Women’s Suffrage Association and the first executive secretary of the LWVUS. She worked diligently with the Texas State Legislature and the United States Congress for an amendment to both the state and United States constitutions. Due to Minnie’s dedication and insistence, Texas became the first southern state to ratify the amendment in 1919.

"To the wrongs that need resistance, To the rights that need assistance, To the future in the distance, Give yourselves."

Carrie Chapman Catt, Founder of the League of Women Voters, 1920

Beneficiary Designations are easy and flexible
Beneficiary Designations are easy and flexible
One of the easiest gifts you can make is to name the League of Women Voters of Texas as a beneficiary of one of your assets, such as your retirement plan, IRA, or life insurance policy. This is a popular gift to give because you can set it up by yourself. There’s no need to use the services of an attorney or financial advisor to put your gift in place.

Simple Steps to Follow:

  1. Contact the administrator of your retirement plan, insurance policy or bank account for a change-of-beneficiary form or simply download a form from your provider’s website.
  2. Decide what amount or percentage of the account you wish to give to the League and name us, along with the stated percentage, on the form.
  3. Sign and return the form to your plan administrator or insurance company.

Tell us about your gift! It would be our honor to thank you for your support. Plus, your generosity can inspire others to follow your example.

Leave money to the League of Women Voters of Texas in your will or living trust.

In as little as one sentence you can complete your gift: “I give to the League of Women Voters of Texas, a nonprofit corporation currently located at Austin, TX, or its successor, * [written amount or percentage of the estate or description of property] for its unrestricted use and purpose.”

Your donation to the League of Women Voters of Texas in your will or living trust helps ensure that we continue our mission for years to come.

After you’ve added the League or if you have any questions, please Contact Us so we can list you as a member of our Minnie Fisher Cunningham Society.

If you are 70 ½ or older and have an IRA, you can take advantage of a simple way to donate to the League and receive tax benefits in return with a Charitable Rollover Gift.  You pay no income taxes on the gift. The transfer doesn't generate taxable income or a tax deduction, so you benefit even if you do not itemize your deductions. If you haven’t taken your required minimum distribution for the year, your IRA charitable rollover gift can satisfy all or part of that requirement.

"I have designated LWVTX as a beneficiary of my planned giving because I want our organization to have the tools and capacity to fulfill its lofty mission of empowering voters and defending democracy. I want our second century to be as illustrious, relevant and necessary as our first. Achieving this goal will take not only dedicated members and leaders but also generous donors who share our vision. "

Julie Lowenberg, Past President, LWVTX

"Our democracy was founded to protect individual liberties and provide for the common good. I support the Minnie Fisher Cunningham Society with a planned gift because the LWV is the foremost provider of nonpartisan, unbiased information about candidates, issues, and elections, facilitating thoughtful and informed voting."
