League of Women Voters of the United States Calls for Immediate Removal of President Donald Trump

LWVUS's call to action is an unprecedented decision for our organization. As a respected, 100-year-old nonpartisan institution, the League’s action represents the grave and extraordinary nature of this moment in history.

League of Women Voters of the United States calls for Immediate Removal of President Donald Trump via any legal means, including and in order of preference: impeachment with disqualification, the invocation of the 25th amendment, or resignation.

“Donald Trump has emboldened and empowered violent agitators, perpetuated dangerous conspiracy theories, and dishonored the office of the President. Furthermore, the members of Congress who continuously lie to the American people about the proven legitimacy of this election are also responsible for today’s horrific events.

Our democracy must be preserved, and our elected leaders must respect the will of the voters. The peaceful transition of power is not a partisan issue. It is a democracy issue.

Texas' 87th Legislature begins January 12th. The League of Women Voters of Texas priority issues are voting rights & election laws and fair redistricting, key components of the democratic process. We encourage all Texans to prepare to fight for voting rights. Check out our new Take Action page.
