2025 Keynote Speaker

Texas Secretary of State Jane Nelson

Our keynote speaker will be Texas Secretary of State, Jane Nelson. Appointed the 115th Texas Secretary of State by Governor Greg Abbott on January 5, 2023, Secretary Nelson is a businesswoman and former teacher who served two terms on the State Board of Education and 30 years as a State Senator representing North Texas. Nelson  was the first woman in Texas history to chair a standing budget-writing committee, serving as Chair of the Senate Finance Committee for four sessions. She was also a member of the Senate State Affairs Committee, which oversees election policy, for eight sessions.

The mission of the NAACP Texas State Conference is to achieve equity, political rights, and social inclusion by advancing policies and practices that expand human and civil rights, eliminate discrimination, and accelerate the well-being, education, and economic security of Black people and all persons of color.

The Texas Classroom Teachers Association is a professional association for Texas public school teachers and others directly involved in classroom teaching or teaching support, including librarians, counselors, coaches, teacher aides and substitutes. TCTA is a nonprofit, nonpartisan, independent organization providing legal assistance, advocacy, and timely, accurate information to members since 1927.

NALEO Educational Fund is the nation’s leading 501(c)(3) non-profit, non-partisan organization that facilitates full Latino participation in the American political process, from citizenship to public service. The organization achieves its mission through integrated strategies that include increasing the effectiveness of Latino policymakers, informing, and mobilizing the Latino community to engage in civic life, and promoting policies that advance Latino civic participation. The organization has been on-the-ground in Texas for over three decades, assisting eligible applicants with the U.S. Citizenship application process, providing nonpartisan voter education and election protection, and mobilizing Latinos to participate in decennial census exercises.
